Not all Zirconia is the same,
Nano-Zirconia is above the rest
Elers Medical® blanks are made from Nano-Zirconia by TOSOH Japan. This material gives superior results in strength and aesthetic parameters. However, due to the high density and purity of the material it requires generally higher temperatures for sintering, ranging from 1500C to 1530C as T-max.
Sintering

Sintering Tables are available with a QR code on the back of the box or from the download link above.

Notice: Tmax could vary from 1450 °C up to 1600 °C – please, choose the value that fits the best result. Parameters were recommended by TOSOH company. They should be specified by customer accordingly to the furnace specific properties and the construction type (single crown, dental bridge, etc.).

To match the sintering temperature with the program temperature, make sure your furnace is calibrated correctly. Lower temperatures will create a deeper shade and lower transparency. Higher temperatures will create a lighter shade and higher transparency, but worse material strength. Do not exceed Max temperature of 1600 C as construction may become unstable.

Check the sintered restoration for visible discoloration, cracks and chips after processing.
*If you have a mix of different constructions for sintering, please use a sum total of units and select the slowest sintering matching program, which is meant for the most elongated construction of the mix, it will not affect smaller constructions negative.

** Advised initial testing Tmax sintering temperature for ML CT and ML ET models is 1500C.

It is advised fine tuning in 10C increments of the Tmax to get the desired effect. Construction can be safely sintered between 1470-1530C at Tmax to give better aesthetic results. If you see distinct layer lines and construction has too little color and is too translucent, that means that the temperature is too high. If the translucent area becomes cloudy it will also indicate that the Tmax is too high.
Temperature effect from left to right at Tmax 1470C -1500C -1530C
*Quick default settings for up to 3 units, please use detailed Sintering charts for more options and information on larger unit constructions.
Construction Recommendation
Recommended construction parameters are as follows for all models.

Please note that when using ML CT models for fabrication of the full anatomical and bridge restorations, the placement of the model in the disk should be such that the cross-section of the connectors is maximally located in the dentin area to achieve maximum structural strength.

Common Practices
Treatment
Elers Medical Indurate® blanks are made of high-performance material and therefore must be handled with care at all times. Avoid touching with wet hands. The precautions given in these instructions for use must be followed.

Milling
For milling workpieces, CNC milling machines, machine tools and process parameters must be observed. The use of coolers during milling is not recommended as their use can lead to discoloration and / or loss of transparency. Check the workpiece for visible discoloration, cracks and fractures after machining.
Use only milling systems recommended by the manufacturers for processing zirconia. Calibration of milling systems is essential for optimal results. All systems are different and unwanted results can be obtained if the minimum thickness requirements are not followed. As the material shrinks during firing, it is important to consider the appropriate compression ratio during milling. Each workpiece is marked with an individual compression ratio that should be taken into account.

Sintering
All restorations made from Elers Medical Indurate® blanks must be sintered.
Firing of ceramic material should be carried out in specialized high-temperature furnaces.
You must follow the firing process specified for Elers Medical Indurate® blanks.
Also comply with the requirements of the oven manufacturer.
All standard programmable dental laboratory ovens can be used.
Sintering furnaces can vary in their technical characteristics, therefore periodic calibration is highly recommended.
Follow the calibration instructions recommended by the oven manufacturer.
If the dental restorations have been fired in the oven using liquid dyes, it is recommended to carry out an oven clean anneal prior to sintering work from Elers Medical Indurate® blanks to avoid discoloration and incorrect translucency of the restoration.
Sintering furnaces should be located in fireproof, well-ventilated areas.
Do not open the oven or reach the dental restorations before the oven has cooled down to avoid the risk of damage to the restorations and burns.

Firing program
The parameters above are recommended by TOSOH. The specific firing parameters should be selected by the dental restorative technician based on the characteristics of the furnaces and the type of work performed.

Normal shelf/plateau temperature should be 1500C T max as a starting point, increase this temperature by 25-30C for better translucency values and less colour saturation to find the result that you like best.
If you have a mix of different constructions for sintering, please choose the temperature for the highest required value of material used but at the slowest/longest firing program, which is meant for the most elongated construction of the mix, it will not effect smaller constructions negatively.

Generally Zirconia sintering temperatures should not be lower than 1400C T max and not higher than 1600C T max.
Check the sintered restoration for visible discoloration, cracks and chips after processing.

Correction
If a correction of a fired ceramic restoration is required, it must only be carried out with water cooled diamond grinding instruments to prevent damage due to local overheating or excessive pressure on the restoration surface.
Never use milling tools that could damage the surface of the restoration.

Shade Correction
It is a common practice to either use a lighter VITA shade disc and then darken it, or to use an exact VITA shade disk but sinter it at a higher temperature to get a lighter shade and then darken it where needed.

Basic rules for handling sintered restorations
- do not apply high pressure to the surface during processing;
- use only diamond grinding tools in good working order;
- avoid the presence of sharp edges on the finished restorations in order to avoid injury to the patient;
- do not grind interdental connectors.

Veneer ceramics, Painting and Glazing
All veneering ceramics and glazing recommended for zirconia based ceramics can be used. All Zirconia recommended paints are usable, do keep in mind that nano-zirconia does not absorb paint as easily due to the high density of material.
Attention! When glazing ML CT model constructions - decrease the thermal shock value by lengthening the cooling cycle of glaze firing.
Double the rate from i.e. 15 minutes to 30 minutes in cooling phase. For elongated constructions it is advisable to lengthen the glaze firing cooling rate to 40 minutes.

Sand Blasting Treatment
Particle size of 50μm - Pressure range 1-2 bar. Preferably lower value towards 1bar to be used in order to avoid chipping. This is used to increase bonding strength with the adhesive, particularly with the veneers.

Installation
Elers Medical Indurate® blanks restorations can be cemented in the conventional manner with zinc phosphate or glass ionomer cement, or with (self-) adhesive cementation as an alternative.

The finished restoration must not be used if it has cracks, breaks or dents, or an abnormal change it its color. If any defect is found, the dental restoration must not be used on a patient.

Contraindications
Do not use restoration:
- in patients with non-functional habits (for example, bruxism);
- in patients with allergies to components;
- made of inappropriate material;
- made incorrectly.

Operating procedure

(1) Remove the disс from standard package and assure it`s not damaged.

(2) Install the disc into the milling machine, then install milling cutters.

Attention! During the installation of the disc labeled «ML», please check its installation position, the right position is the text-down. Otherwise after milling and sintering you could receive the inverted shading construction. The side which is opposite to the text-side - is pointed with colored dot – it is the side of the darkest layer shade.

(3) After milling separate the construction from disc.

(4) Blow off fine residual and dust after milling by using of air-blast.

(5) Put the construction into refractory crucible and place it in a sintering furnace.

(6) Start the sintering process according to the sintering program Instruction.

(7) After the final sintering the construction can be fitted to the model by a wet grinding process with diamond-coated burs if necessary. Sinter diamonds, corundum stones or hard metal milling burs must not be used. Overheating has to be avoided.
